In our present era, we live in a society seemingly obsessed with "effective" communication via our increasingly ubiquitous technological advancements. It is ironic, then, to possess an understanding that these devices, our cellphones, internet connections, and televisions, are at the very root of our current societal, economic and interpersonal problems. It seems that our advancement has knocked the very wheels off of the one acquired ability through which effective use has greatly differentiated us from our cousins on the evolutionary chain: communications. We spend our lives talking into plastic and silicon boxes, seldom taking into account the person on the other end of the copper wire and radio transmission. Where is the humanity?
